Factors influencing toy purchases for parents

Through user interviews, I uncovered insights into user behavior and the decision-making process when parents purchase toys for their children. These interviews specifically targeted parents who frequently select toys for their kids.

  1. Customer reviews greatly influence purchasing decisions. Higher ratings in customer reviews increase trust in a product.
  2. Price is an important consideration, especially for parents buying toys for multiple children.
  3. Parents want to know if toys are safe for younger kids. Material quality is important, especially for younger children.
  4. Toys that offer multiple functions and encourage independent play are preferred.
  5. Well-known brands that align with Children's developmental needs are trusted.
- Business Research

The business owner wishes to improve the current website

As a designer, I harmonized user and business owner feedback to boost revenue while maintaining a seamless user experience.

The business, specifically collaborating with Crayola, aims to incorporate Crayola's color branding into the brand guidelines.

  1. Improve the existing usability to enchase the shopping experience and increase profit.
  2. Enhance the interface design, typography, layout, images, and color scheme.
  3. Create an animated landing page with vibrant visuals and dynamic elements.
  4. Incorporate animation and sound effects to enhance the gaming experience.
  5. Collaborate with Crayola to update the existing brand guide and create vibrant and active sporting branding.

Uncovering user needs from the Score N' Explores website to increase sales

After uncovering user needs and pain points through user interviews and usability testing, I developed ideas aimed at enhancing the usability of the existing website and increasing product sales. Utilizing the Figjam chat bot AI, I improved productivity by rapidly generating numerous design ideas with users and business owner's feedback.

Parents often seeks a toy that's not only enjoyable but also educational

Parents value quality, versatility, and educational aspects when choosing toys for their kids, actively engaging with social media platforms like Instagram, often relying on recommendations and links shared by others. Their purchasing decisions are influenced by a toy's developmental benefits, durability, and multiple functionalities.

In most cases, parents decide to purchase a toy based on its rating and reviews

Users' reviews and ratings are the most important factors in completing the order during the user interviews. To appeal to users, it was very important to highlight user feedback and ratings on the landing page. Score N' Explore already has positive reviews and high ratings on Amazon, it has a significant advantage.

- Competitor analysis

Score N' Explore seeks new athletics and educational branding, as well as incorporating marketing strategies

Score N' Explore has partnered with Crayola on its branding guide. It is important to incorporate Crayola's branding while simultaneously preserving Score N' Explore's graphical branding guidelines. In order to gain a deeper understanding of marketing strategies and branding strategies, I researched a few sportswear brands.

- Wire-framing / Prototyping

Identifying ways to increase sales and improve branding identity

As part of the design process with the owner of the business, I explored multiple directions for wireframe designs. The business owner wants to highlight themes of education, activity, and credentials while informing users about what the product is.

Design changes made based on user research for the home page

  • Provide detailed information about products on an interactive website with active and engaging images of kids playing with the product.

  • Product reviews: Creating a campaign that encourages users to write and share detailed reviews of products on Instagram and highlight the positive reviews on Amazon.

  • Collaborate with Crayola and update the existing brand guide and improve the interface design, typography, layout, images, color, etc...

- Learning

To take advantage of AI, keep learning new tools

Working on this project alone required me to wear many hats. It is difficult for me to spend much time on user research in a short period of time. To save time, I used usability testing AI, Figma Chatbot, and ChatGPT. The designer must keep learning new technologies, try new design processes, and try new tools.
